My guests on this episode, the whole family got together and created a game. This is a game with a purpose. Have you ever had a house guest that you wanted to get rid of? You couldn’t stand and was like, “Why are they here? How do you get rid of these people? It drives me crazy,” but you’ve got to be nice and you can’t do what you want to do.

You’ve got to know what you’re supposed to do. It’s like, “I’m pulling my hair out.” You end up being bald. How would you like to keep your hair, keep your house, give it to your guest, learn how to do it, and having fun? House Guests from Hell is the name of the game. I’m telling you, it’s going to blow you away. They’re on an international tour promoting it. This thing is going viral and crazy. I begged them, “Please let me do a show with you.” It took me three days to get ahold of them. Finally, they agreed to it. I kidnapped them, brought them in this crazy room where nobody could hear us. We get to hear from Peter and Kathryn. They are part of this game that they created. I want to hear how did you get started? What happened when you created this idea? How did it come about? Peter, tell me all about it.

We were the original House Guests from Hell, to have a confession. That’s how we got started. Along the way, we had a lot of crazy people at our house and my mom decided to put it into a game.

I’m thinking about this, from a problem, comes a solution. From the solution, you get to have fun and also realize, “How can we make this where it’s entertaining and not frustrating?” Kathryn, how do you think about all that?

It’s definitely true to take a problem and turn it into a solution and that’s one of the dynamics of the game is you have dilemma cards. Let’s say, your guest has vomited all over your coffee table and now, you have to clean it up, and then you have solution cards, you might have a loofah, or a tarp, or an adult diaper. You have to pick something that you think is going to work to fix that solution with the dilemma and then you present that to the other players and they have to vote whether they approve or deny that proposed solution.

That’s one of the questions. When we think about all the crazy things your house guests put you through, you’ve got to find a solution. At that time, when you’re going through this, you’re going, “I can’t believe this.” They’ve made it where they’ve thought about it. Why did you come up with the idea? What was the idea that says, “We’ve got to make this. We’ve got to get out of this dilemma. We’ve got to figure out how to make this fun?” When you sat down as a family and said, “I want to create that,” what was your first a-ha moment for you?

We had this one particular guest that had left. Me and my mom were laughing about some of the stuff. When he was with us, it was not funny. He went crazy and shit went down, literally. After he left, it was hilarious. We were snowballing the idea of, “Why don’t we make this into a game?” We did. We have a product that works, which we didn’t know it was going to work when we were making it.

House Guests From Hell: House Guests from Hell teaches you to problem solve and be innovative. It’s about overcoming adversity disguised in a lot of humor and fun.

It’s like, “What is the game Clue?” This is the real deal. This is something that you turn into reality. You took problems and guests that you wanted to get rid of, situations that you want to know how to handle and you turned it into something positive. When you’re getting frustrated, you can have fun with it.

It’s about overcoming adversity, but it’s disguised in a lot of humor and fun. It teaches you to problem solve and be innovative. It’s great for team building, but each player gets to think of the solutions in their own independent way. It’s not forced. Unlike any other games, it’s humor and it’s very interactive where all the cards are open face. Everyone gets to participate in every turn and every person gets to vote. It also changes group to group, whether you’re playing with your mother or your family or the business and what their sensibilities are. It teaches you sales, leadership, and communication while you’re laughing your ass off and having fun.

This is more than just a game for house guests. This is about your real life, your business. Some people have businesses from hell and they don’t know how to deal with it. Imagine, using the same strategies, because it’s a strategy that you’re teaching people and applying to their business or into their intimate relationship. This goes more than just a board game. This is way deeper than that, isn’t it?

It is way deeper. It teaches you many skills and it creates a community. We’re all yearning for community, learning for validation, yearning for connection. This puts people together again, but it’s disguised in funny and humor, but you get more out of it.

It’s time for people to put their cell phones down, quit texting, and play a game where they can connect with themselves and see who they are, but to see how other people are too. How do other people handle the problems that we learn from other people? It’s not our experiences, they’re from other experiences.

You learn a lot in this game about other people’s brain types. I learned even from my mom’s and sister’s experiences, how their brain works, and how they would solve a problem. I would think of a problem in one way and they’d come up with a solution with a particular item that I would have never thought of. I was like, “I’m jealous. I would have never thought of that,” or you see how other people think. People end up helping each other. It’s competitive without being combative, where people are on their own team, but they ended up starting to help each other. It’s that interaction we all want. We end up learning to solve problems and laugh along the way.

You’re talking about a game with a purpose and growth. I don’t know of a game out there. I even hate to call it a game, because it’s so much fun. This is a board game that has a lot of purpose for growth in all areas of your life. You think about this. We’re looking at different people and how they solve problems. Imagine not micromanaging but blowing your business up by learning from this game. Imagine, everybody has value. When you look at a game like this, it promotes people with value. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from because everybody can contribute.

Everybody has value, but society likes to put people in a box and make them feel like they’re one way. This helps you break out whether you’re an introvert, an extrovert, a man, a female, super creative, or super linear in mathematical or in your thinking, or a veteran gamer or rookie gamer. We’ve seen every one of those people play this game and have an equal shot. That’s what’s made me the happiest and have the most joy is to see veteran gamers, rookie gamers, introverts, extroverts, men, and women all sit down and play the game and have the same power, connection, and fulfillment.

What ideal age group is this for? I know you think about doing it with friends, but imagine family. Can you teach your children through this game how to have respect, responsibility, creativity, imagination, and taking the right steps to move towards their goals in life in general and teaching that to your children?

It would be like ten and up. It depends on how smart your kid is. It’s for everything. I’m working on a workbook for business fixing. I’m also working on a family empowerment pack, which is for families to bring families to get together again and to help parents with parenting and help kids with teenage angst and frustration. We’ll have many challenges, games, and the workbook that will go with that. It’s for all ages. There is no perfect target audience. It can be used with college kids, with your business, or even older people, we’ve seen it works. It works with kids great as well.

Everybody has very intelligent parts of everybody. Everybody knows my story. I’m a high school dropout. I never even got my diploma, but it never stopped me from being successful and from wanting to make a difference in somebody else’s life. We all have that drive, that purpose in life and things happen for us. We’re designed by our creator for a reason so we can serve and give back. I love the idea that there is no age limit or minimum because I saw on the TV when we’re doing a cruise three-year-old is one of the smartest kids out there. This kid’s a genius. He’s got a high IQ, but what makes a difference is people that care. I see very intelligent people out there that suffer and they’ve seen people that have hardly anything grow and give back. That’s what this whole game is about.

It’s about growth, respect, responsibility, taking, and listening to how other people develop. From there, we can all learn. You can take the smartest person in that game and yet learn from somebody that doesn’t have the same intelligence. It could be the child. They see it from the other point of view. When we can see something from somebody else’s point of view, then we don’t judge them. We love them, accept them. From there, we say, “Maybe, this game has a purpose.” When we open up that box and let it out, that’s the real gift. This is a phenomenal game. Every time, anywhere you play it, they come back and it’s the highest energy of any group we’ve ever seen. They talk about it. They can’t wait to play it again. Everybody buys it because it’s made a difference. It’s not a game that you’re going to put in your closet and forget about it, “I remember all those games, sorry, monopoly.” This is a game that stays on your shelf.

It was made by a family for families, but not little kids. There’s some potty humor in it.
