Developing Success Habits With Michelle Guinn
I have a special guest. A dear friend of mine that I’ve had the honor of being with, sharing an event with. You talk about inspiration and daily habits specialists. She’s the CEO of bullet point habits to become the CEO of your own life and businesses. She’s not just a phenomenal speaker, she’s an author. The list goes on and on. I want to say welcome, thank you for being here, Michelle Guinn. Thank you for being my guest. It’s an honor that you’re taking your time to be here with me on Getting Your Mind Set with Mark. The first part about getting your life together. We met years ago and since then, you have skyrocketed to success, influenced and impacted many other people. I want to thank you for being here and welcome to my show. I hope one day I’ll be honored to be on your podcast because it’s an honor that you’re going to be here. You are the CEO of bullet point habits. Tell us about that, Michelle.
Mark, I appreciate you having me on. I created a program, it’s called Change Your Habits, Change Your Life. My company is called Ever Inspire. My goal is to help people to step outside of their comfort zone, develop those daily habits that they need the routines, to take a step back from what they do every day, find out what’s working and what’s not working for you, and let’s fix those habits. Let’s get you on the right course to becoming the CEO of your own life, business, and living the best life you can live.
Many people let other people lead their lives and dictate their lives for them. When you do that, you give up who you are. You don’t do the things you want in life for the people you want to do them with. You have mastered this. You have taken your life and inspired many others. You’re speaking all over the place. You’re on Inspiration2020 Speaking Tour, which is all over the place. You know how hard it is to get on that tour and you were one of the ones that they picked to be on that tour. If you get an opportunity, you’ve got to go to Inspiration2020. You want to see her speak live, she’s going to blow your socks off so don’t even wear. If you wear shoes, take your socks off. It’s going to knock your socks off if you don’t. What are some tips that you can give some of the audience out there and how do they get ahold of some of your stuff so they can be taking control of their own life in their business and personal life? What would you suggest they do to start on that trail and that journey to living a quality life, Michelle?
First of all, you have to get out of your comfort zone. Staying in your comfort zone is a habit and it’s comfortable so it’s so easy to let go of your life, let go of the wheel, and stay in that comfort zone. The number one thing that I can give people is you’ve got to face your fears, you’ve got to step out, and you’ve got to do things that are uncomfortable from time to time. The next thing is, you’ve got to understand your why, you’ve got to understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, and you’ve got to understand your vision. What it is that you want with your life. Until you have that, anything and any goals that you said, they’re not going to have meaning to you, they’re not going to have emotion behind them and then you’re not going to go after them. It’s important to understand your why, vision, and then set those goals because those goals are going to be your GPS to tell you where you’re going. They’re going to give you the direction and the address to where you want to go in life. Without that, you’re going to be going nowhere.
When you say that, it hits me because your why is the most powerful thing. People don’t realize that. They have ideas, “I want to be rich. I want to be successful. I want to have all these things,” but when you ask them why they go, “I don’t know. I just want it.” They don’t have a deep reason why. In the last few years, your life has skyrocketed. Not only that, your daughter’s life. You talk about inspiration. Yolanda and I to this day talk about your daughter and how much she’s grown and what an inspiration. Having your why inspired not only you, but it’s contagious. You’re helping many other people and influenced many people. What was your why? Why did you create this for you?
Now that you’re on the right path, you’re on purpose, which people lack. That’s the one thing they don’t do. Getting out of their comfort zone means success. What was your why, Michelle, and what made you step up so much that you’ve gotten the success that you’ve got and the recognition? A world tour, Inspiration2020 is powerful. When major speakers try to get on that and they can’t, and you’re there. What was your big why and what was the big change you made to get out of your comfort zone? When you get out of there, getting out of your comfort zone, does it become comfortable after a while?
It absolutely does and that’s a good point, Mark, because getting out of your comfort zone is uncomfortable. Even if you take baby steps every single day, the more you do it, the more comfortable it gets and then you’ve changed as a person. You’re no longer that introverted, quiet person who feels like they have nothing to contribute to anyone. You’re now this amazing person who can network with anyone, feels like they belong, your self-confidence skyrockets so it gets easier over time. At first, it’s hard but it does get much easier. Going back to your why, for me, my why has always been my children.
I had my first son young. I was nineteen when I had my son. I worked hard to make sure that they always had everything that they needed. I was a single mom for ten years. That also put me in that comfort zone because I spent so long working to make sure that I paid the bills, they had a roof overhead and food in their mouths. Yet, I knew that there was something more out there for me. My new why right now is my freedom and my freedom to do what I want when I want to, to have an impact, to be able to travel, to be able to be on tour like this, and impact the lives of many people. That is my new why and my new focus.
You’re talking about being an inspiration to your children. Taking somebody like a single mother at nineteen years old, and stepping up back then. Our brains go into survival. We want to make sure that our children have the necessary needs. What you’ve done is you stepped up your life and now your children are like, “If mom can do this in all the challenge she had,” then you’re the biggest hero. That’s the coolest thing. My wife and I have seen your daughter grow in leaps and bounds but you took that first step. You’re the mama bear that says, “I’m taking it to the next level.” You’re on this great tour that the joy and the happiness that we see in you. Every time we get around you, we always want to hang around you because of the energy you give to us and you inspire us to want to do more. You talk about leaping out and doing challenging your fears.
It's important to understand your why and set your goals because those goals are going to be your GPS to tell you where you're going. Share on XThe emotion, while we have the fears, is we’re afraid of change and yet we’re uncomfortable by staying where we are. When you step out, it feels different but it’s not scary. It’s the illusion of thinking that it’s scary. You realize, “I wonder how long I could have been doing this.” What would be some ideas or golden tips you can give to the audience out there on how they can get their why and move forward towards the goal to inspire not only themselves but it’s about helping others? That’s where you’re stepping up because the contribution makes a difference, doesn’t it?
It does. You have to have something that you’re working towards, whether it’s your children or your family. It could be having more quality time to spend with your family. It could be spending more time with your pets. Having a charitable contribution, being able to go out and help others. Whatever that is, you have to identify that first and then you have to create that vision. A lot of us in the space have vision boards and it’s everything that we want to have in our lives. I have a whole wall that has everything that I want in my life, where I want to travel to, what kind of car I want in the future, and it gives me that inspiration. I look at every day. That’s what I’m working towards and that’s what I want. I have my why, I have my vision. It’s a matter of stepping out beyond what you’re comfortable with and facing those fears. It does get easier each time, going for it, making the decision, getting comfortable with your decisions, following your gut feeling, and doing what feels right to you.
I talk about people that make goals. I’m saying, “Quit making goals that you’re in New Year’s Eve drunk goals.” A vision board is taking your imagination and making it real. Something that you could see, feel, touch, and it’s right there for you. Once you created that, how many things have you accomplished on that by doing that one simple step? People don’t realize that but that’s powerful, isn’t it?
It is powerful. I have to say that my vision board is fairly new so I haven’t accomplished everything but I did have one thing on there and that was something that I accomplished in 2019. It was to go whale watching in Maui and that I have already achieved. That was an amazing experience.
No limitations on the vision board. It’s all about creating the vision, going from your imagination as a child, and realizing that nothing is impossible. Everything is possible. The only thing that’s impossible is the belief that we have that we can’t do it because if it’s been done before, then we can accomplish it. You’ve created a whole book, a journal on people how they can very simply integrate this into their life. They can start down their path, start getting rewarded, growing, and having not just success, but fulfillment in their life. Tell me about that.
It’s a 30-day guided journal. For me, especially not being used to journaling previously, to stare at a blank piece of paper and know what to write or even guess what kinds of things to write, it was a daunting task to me. I created a journal. It’s got four pages for each day. It’s got questions that you can answer. It has you evaluate how your day went because many of us at the end of the day sit back and say, “What the heck did I do all day? My day was terrible.” This journal gives you the opportunity to answer these questions. What did you do? What did you do kind for yourself? How was your day? Evaluate and it helps you to take a step back and re-evaluate and say, “I did accomplish something and I did have a good day.” It gives you space to write your goals and tasks. Gratitude every single day is so important. That’s in there, your affirmations, and it’s a great book to get you started. If you’re not in the habit of journaling, it gets you started. It helps you and guides you along the way. The title of the book is called Get in The Habit. It is available on Amazon for purchase.
As you’re talking, we focus on the things we didn’t do instead of the things that we did do. If we can bring to our conscious mind and subconscious to get conditioned, to create that habit, to focus on the good things, and then we’re not so busy, we’re productive. That’s the biggest part of moving forward to being grateful and growing in this world. If they say, “I want to get this woman off the tour and get her into my event,” how would they contact you? Any way we could possibly do that to stay in touch with you. I know you’re busy. You’re sought after by a lot of speakers out there but how do our audience get ahold of you, Michelle Guinn?
