A Life By Choice: The Stress-Free Formula To Get The Life That You Want With Merri-jo Hillaker
This is a woman I met who is an inspiration to many people. This is a powerful woman. Her story is incredible. She’s on the Inspiration2020 world tour influencing many other people, not just women but men, families and companies. You name it, she’s the woman you go to. This is Merri-jo Hillaker. Merri-jo, thanks for being on my show. You’ve got to tell them a little about you. Tell them who you are.
I love being here. I was born and raised in this family poor as a church mouse. Four kids in 3.5 years and no twins. I was the last one out. By the age of about four, I must have concluded that in order for me to ever get anything alive, I needed to compete. That served me in many ways. I became competitive. I was president of my class all the way through junior high and high school. I played competitive basketball. In fact, I went on to college and played there as well. The problem was that all these limiting beliefs developed in me and not withstanding my career in law and doing extremely well at 28. I was Vice President and General Counsel of a multibillion-dollar company long before the #MeTooMovement.
This is encouraging and inspirational to so many out there. You weren’t born with a silver spoon. You created a golden one.
In the meantime, I was destroying a lot of things because I got married, 1.5 years’ later I was divorced and I had some other business dealings that didn’t go right for me. In my mid-30s, late 30s, I said, “Something’s missing here.” Somebody introduced me to self-development work. I started on this path about discovering things I didn’t know that I didn’t know. Here I thought I was so darn bright. I must know everything. I didn’t know a lot. It unveiled to me this whole new level of things that were holding me back from those limiting beliefs that I developed by the experiences I had in my life, like being born fourth of four kids. I made that mean, “I needed to compete or I’d have nothing.”
When people saw me competitive, they are like, “What makes you?” I say, “I was born that way. That’s all I knew.” It’s our biggest fat excuse. When you’re competitive, because you’ve programmed yourself that way, without even knowing, in a marriage, that means you have to be right and that’s why my marriage first one only lasted 1.5 years. Getting through that and busting through many other beliefs about money, business and success. After that, I became a multimillionaire and even now, in a marriage that I’ve been in for 29 years, wonderful kids and raised four of them. It’s been incredibly successful. I love to help people uncover what they don’t know, they don’t know.
If you listen to what you said that it’s success and your marriage was success. Success isn’t money. That’s a part of what people think, “I’ve got to have all this money to be successful,” because you were married for 1.5 years, competitive, that wasn’t success, yet you had a lot of money. That’s because you are successful in that, but you also are not selfish. You are one of the most unselfish beautiful souls out there. I love hanging out with Lydia. She is an inspiration to everybody. She’s like this ball of energy that watch on like, “Who is that woman? She’s always by your side.” I will say, “Merri-jo say hi to Lydia.” She was like, “I give her a hug. She’s backable.” You’ve created a team and an inspiration, but how many other people are you helping, like charities? This your life’s mission. You don’t need money, but you are like this wall of energy walking around. I was like, “That’s who I want to be. When I grow up, I’ll be like her.” I think I’m older than you.
One of my other favorite passion besides my faith, is I loved health. I love to teach people how to choose it. Even in the self-development work, it’s like people live their life by chance and circumstance instead of living their life by choice. I want you all to think for yourself, “What if I could live every day of my life at choice?” That’s what I love teaching people. It’s choice about health, wealth, success and relationships. That’s where I want to drive people and it’s about opening their eyes, how each and every person can achieve that.
Live your life by choice, not circumstance. Share on XMany people think we don’t have choice. I hear that term, “That’s the cards I was dealt.” That’s not the card you were dealt, that’s what showed up.
My cards were born of four kids of a rotten poor family that I could hardly survive in. I had 101 excuses about why life might not turn out. I want you to throw those away because they don’t exist.
There are lots of cards out there. We can pick any playing cards you want. I love that they call them playing cards. If they’re playing cards, why don’t people play them? They settle. We know it’s like, “How do you get to next level?” What are some tips you can give to somebody to be successful? When I say successful, you mentioned it all, health and contribution. You are a master at giving back. Nobody knows that, because you don’t brag about it. It’s not about that. It’s about what you can give away and not get caught doing it. What can you help single women, married women, single men, married men, whoever that is out there, the right tools and choices to make the right decisions so they can get on track, live a fulfilled life and be successful in many areas like you’ve done? Inspiration2020 tour worldwide, how many people get to do with that? It’s not too many.
Never settle. Whenever you find yourself saying, “I didn’t have the smarts,” “I didn’t have this,” “I don’t have the money,” “I don’t have the education,” quit it. There’s nothing truthful about that. You’re settling. You can have whatever you choose to have. Start believing in yourself and let all of those limitations that give you an excuse, “Why not?” turn them into a why? You’ll start driving that life in a direction. If you are like me, I had all the educational background. I went to college, to law school, to one year post law school to get a doctorate in tax. I did all of that, but it didn’t give me the education I needed on how to live that fulfilled life because it doesn’t come from that education. It’s about going out there and getting some good training, get some good books to read, but never settle.
How would people get ahold of you if they want to follow and be inspired by you saying, “I want to be on that path.” Sometimes people may not like my voice, they might not like me, they might be more inspired to connect with different people with different life leverages. How would they get ahold of you? What ways can they get ahold of you to keep on track, to be successful in this life?
When I turned 65, my husband said to me, “You better figure out what you’re going to do for the next 65 because you’re one of those people that are going to be here.” I feel that. There is no doubt about it. The best way to get ahold of me would be in my website, GMMA360.com. That stands for Global Mindset Mastery Association. You can contact me through that website. You can see my podcasts and my classes. I’d love to interfere in your life.
Get rid of those choices that are negative and make some good choices. A better choice would be, is to get ahold of you.
I thrive on that because I don’t have to worry about any details. I get to go out there, love on people, share with them and help move them forward. That’s all I want to do.
You’ve done that to many people. I’m always in the room. A lot of times you see other speakers like, “I’ve heard this from her. I want to get out there.” I see her on this side. If you watch a speaker, when they come from the heart, their conditioning, their mind and their body, and you see them do things that are not normal like get themselves excited. I see you on the sidelines revving up. I’m like, “Is she a race car driver because she’s getting ready to take off and make a difference?” You’ve done it every time I see you speak, it gets better and better. Even if it’s the same information, it’s like, “This woman is unstoppable.”
It is an honor that you took your time to allow you to be on my show. We were talking about somebody we’ve known together for years. We talked about somebody in MLM, Mannatech, Ken Anderson, a very powerful human being. That’s how close this world is. We don’t know all the people we come in contact with. The best thing to do is make sure you keep in touch with this most powerful woman, superhero of the day and superhero of your life, because she’s made a difference. The cards she was dealt, she didn’t like the deck. She traded them in and got a new deck. Life is about picking the deck that you want and making the right choices. Merri-jo, I thank you for allowing me this time. You’re an honor. Make sure you get ahold of her. She’s an inspiration for many people out there. Any golden tips you can give before we say goodbye and God bless?
As I said before, look at your life and don’t fall for it. You can be better. You can live the life that you dreamed. It’s about saying, “I’m done. I’m going to make a shift and be different.” Find support systems to allow you to do that. Because a lot of it is things you don’t know, you don’t know. You need to do some uncovering work first to find those limiting beliefs that you have in your life. Things that you’ve been programmed as a child, as a young adult, and you want to bust through those because they’re going to hold you back the rest of your life if you don’t discover them. Go out there and get that work done. I’m rooting for you 100%.
Thank you for reading. Make sure you look at Merri-jo. She’s a powerful woman and inspiration.
