Interrupting The Pattern Of Your Subconscious To Eliminate Procrastination
I want to talk about procrastination. After doing my show, I had this young lady come up to me and she was talking about, “I’m fascinated by what you do and the power of the mind and how at the end of the show you always give people strong, positive suggestions. No matter what show you’re doing, you always seem to do that. Every time I’ve seen you, it’s always about empowering others.” She said, “Is your subconscious mind really that powerful?” I said, “What do you think? You see the results right in front of you. What I’m doing up there is not just entertaining. I’m showing you the power of how you can make changes instantly. Why do people procrastinate?”
She says, “I want to stop procrastinating. I want to get a couple of these things done and I want to learn all about hypnosis in the mind and how it works.” She then says, “Let me think about it.” I’m thinking, there’s a prime example of a perfect person who procrastinates and the one thing she wants to learn about is how to stop procrastinating. She asked me, “Why do I procrastinate? I have the desire. Is it the desire?” I say, “it’s a little more than just the desire.” Ask yourself, how many times in life have you had a true passion, a desire to get a goal, to do something, to meet somebody, to talk to somebody, to accomplish something in your life? How many times have you had that desire? You add the full intentions.
I’ve got the desire and I’ve got the intention, I’m all excited about it. I’m passionate about it and yet you seem to hit a wall or you give up or that desire, that passion fades away. We get busy, we get other things that come into our life. We make excuses on why we don’t need to follow through. Why is that? What is going on there? You hear about people saying the law of attraction. If you attract and you believe it, it comes to you. Why is there that wall, that tendency to move forward and then you stop? It’s like you’re running a race and you’re full speed ahead. Before you know it, you’ve run out of steam. You run out of motivation, you run out of desire quicker than you thought. Does that mean the desire went away? It didn’t go away. What happens is you suppressed it. The reason you suppressed it is because you stopped taking action based on a program on your subconscious mind. You got to know how your mind works.
The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind
We’ve got two parts of our mind. We’ve got the conscious mind. The conscious mind is the one that has the desires, the imagination, the goals, the dreams, the passion. This is the part of our mind that creates everything that says, “I’ve got this burning desire in me to accomplish something.” That’s your conscious mind. You made a conscious decision to read this blog. You say, “I want to grow in some way, so I’m going to read this,” or many other shows you choose. You’ve got the subconscious mind. Here’s what I talk about in my live seminars. I want you to understand the difference between why our behaviors and our actions either move us forward or stop us from moving forward. Everybody’s program is different. Everybody’s actions are different. We may have the same desire, the same goals, the same passion, the same excitement, but yet our outcomes are always different. Why is that? That is all based on the program on your subconscious mind.
Not believing in something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Share on XWhether you believe in hypnosis or not has nothing to do with it. Not believing in something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. That only means that you are unable to recognize certain things and that program is not available to you because you pretend like it doesn’t exist. If you pretend like the world is flat, does that mean the world is flat? I don’t care if you believe it, you have the desire, you’re passionate about it. Does that make it flat? No, it doesn’t. The reality is that you will live in a flat world and you’ll miss out on the opportunity to see all around the world because you have limited yourself. Your subconscious mind, I want you to think of it like this. If you own a computer, you’ve worked on a computer, you know about computers and I’m sure everybody in this world knows about it. If you’re over three years old, you know about it. There’s called a hard drive on a computer. The hard drive takes information and it stores it. It reacts automatically. There are times when you’re working on your computer and without you even realizing it, you may pick up a virus. That is a possibility. Sometimes, you’re going to pick up a virus on your hard drive. Is that true? Yes or no?
Let’s assume that you don’t even realize you picked it up. You’re just browsing. You’re living life every day. You’re working on a new computer. You didn’t do anything wrong intentionally. You didn’t download anything. You don’t know it would have happened. There’ll be a tipping point in there where you start to notice the results that you’re getting from your computers are not as quick as you used to get them before. Why is that? There was a program on your hard drive that is slowing your computer down. Is it possible also that you could have the wrong information on your computer? If you’re Googling something, is it possible you could not get the right information? It’s going to deliver the information. Does that always make it true? Absolutely not.
I remember a time when I was walking my little dog and she had got stung by a bee. We found it and made her nauseous. What we did is we Googled what do you do for a dog that gets stung by a bee? On the internet, it said, “Make sure you put ice on it.” It was very painful. We took her to the vet and the vet said, “The worst thing you can do is put ice on the bee sting for a dog.” We said, “We got this from the internet.” What does that tell you? That tells you that all information is not absolutely true. It is sometimes an opinion. It’s the meaning that they put in there and what people write in there, it becomes data. Is it possible that you could have some data if your subconscious mind is like the hard drive? Could you have some data on your subconscious mind? A program that is interrupting your desires, your intentions, your motivation to get results that you want? Why do you procrastinate? You’re excited.
You’ve got all these goals and you’re headed down this path and all of a sudden, you hit a wall. Why is that? What is that wall? That’s a pattern in your mind. That’s a pattern that your brain is saying, “Hang on a second. Are you sure you can get this goal accomplished? Have you tried to get a goal accomplished before and it didn’t work?” Your brain starts to question your conscious mind and desire. It says, “Are you sure? Let’s think about this for a second.” What do you do? You start applying the brakes on your goals and you lose the momentum. What do you do? You feel a little guilty. We don’t feel so good.
Getting Rid Of Pain
You have two choices to make at that point. One, you have to interrupt that pattern and take the action. What do most people do so they don’t feel the resentment and the guilt? You have to change the story of what something means to you or you feel guilty. What do you do? You create a new store that says, “Now is not the right time for me. I’m busy right now. Summer’s coming up. Winter’s coming up. The kids are going back to school. I’m looking at other things like family vacations.” You create an excuse as an illusion so you can get rid of the pain because you don’t like the way you feel. Your mind is all based on moving away from pain and moving towards pleasure.
If you start to feel pain, you immediately got to fix that. How do you fix an emotional pain? You change to what something means to you. That’s the way our brain is wired. We’re wired for survival. We’re not wired to be successful, we’re wired for survival. It’s always going to look for what’s wrong instead of what’s right. We’ve got to figure out, we’ve got to change what things mean to us in order to get the results that we want. If we’re always moving away from pain and moving towards pleasure, why do we get these gut feelings in our bodies? Every thought has a physical response. The physical response is telling your mind you want to make some changes. Does that mean that the physical response is right or wrong? It’s giving your brain ideas that you have to make some changes.
If you’re feeling guilty by procrastinating, you’re tricking and giving more information to your mind that says, “I’m not going to quit. I’m just not doing it right now.” You give your subconscious mind a distraction so you can procrastinate because you have the fear. The fear is all based on what if I try and it doesn’t work? Are people going to judge me? If they judge me, am I going to be loved and accepted? We do this. Let’s create a new story, a new pattern in our subconscious mind. That way, we got an excuse and illusion. What’s interesting is you start to have that resentment again for not taking the action. It starts to work the opposite. What do you do? Something triggers it.
People focus on what they have to do to get a result instead of the result that they want. Share on XWhen you see somebody else, they inspire you, they influence you. When you see a TV commercial, you watch a seminar, a webinar, you get all pumped up again. You have the guilt for not taking action. It works the opposite. You start down that path again, but is it possible that you could hit a roadblock again? Yes, that’s a second pattern. It’s a pattern of restriction and you feel like hitting roadblocks. What do you do? You slow down again. This time you’ve got to make a different excuse. “Everything I have in life, I’m pretty happy with. My life is good enough,” and you’d get complacent. No, it’s not good enough. You’re not reading this and you’re not trying to grow because your life is good enough. You’re here to grow. We as human beings, if we’re not growing, we are dying. That’s life in history. That’s life. That’s energy. We’ve got to grow.
We get complacent and we say, “There’s no difference between what I have and what I want.” You create this illusion, this lie to yourself and you go, “I’m not doing it. Why would I take the risk?” There come the excuses because why? You start to feel guilty when you hit that wall again. You feel guilty and now, what do you have to? You got to change the story or take the action. These are patterns in your subconscious mind that play tricks on you. Your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between reality and vivid imagination. What you’ve got to do is you got to create, you have to know how to interrupt that pattern.
Interrupting The Procrastination Pattern
How do you interrupt that pattern in your subconscious mind to get a new result, a new pattern, a different result? Do you know anybody that’s ever tried to lose weight, been on a diet, lost the weight and put it back on? Why would they go through all that work, those diets, doing the things they don’t want to do to get a result that they know they want to have? As soon as they get the result, they get off the diet and what happens? They put that weight back on. When they’re trying to lose weight again, they’ve got something else coming up, they don’t feel comfortable with the way they feel, the way they look. They immediately think, “I got to go back on a diet. I got to do something.” We are programmed to think that in order to lose weight, we have to have a diet. Why would anybody go on a diet? Why would you deprive your body and your mind?
There’s a TV show out once called The Biggest Loser. If you ever have seen that television program, these are people that were obese. They put them through the most horrendous workout and dieting. They were in pain all the time. Did they get the result that they wanted? Yes or no? They did. What happened to those people? What happened when that program was over? Did they still have their own program to avoid pain and move towards pleasure? Yes, they did. The results were they put the weight back on. I want you to ask yourself, why would somebody, a human being go through all of that hard work only to destroy the results that they wanted their whole life?
It’s not that they consciously wanted to put it back on. You have to understand what’s running your life. It’s your subconscious. The reason why people procrastinate is because as soon as they went on that diet, they lost the weight. They deprived themselves and when they got off the diet it was the happiest day of their life. They couldn’t wait to eat something normal and they put the weight back on. A reason people procrastinate is that how they got the result was all based on pain. If we understand that our brain is designed to avoid pain and move towards pleasure, dieting means pain. If moving forward on their goals means pain, I have to work hard. How do I become successful? You got to work hard. What if you changed what that meant to you? Instead of focusing on what you have to do. Here’s the tipping point. People focus on what they have to do to get a result instead of the result that they want once they accomplish what they did. If you could imagine that you already did something, you have the result, your focus and feeling drives your behaviors because you feel different. When you feel different, it’s exciting to you and gives you pleasure. What is our brain design? It’s designed to avoid pain and move towards pleasure. It creates that new pattern.
If we have a desire, we have an intention and we know we sabotaging our yourself, then the only thing that could possibly be is the program that we’re running on our subconscious mind, which means how we get to the result is all based on what we have to do instead of the result of what we need to get. I remember spending some time with Danny Trejo who is an actor. We got an opportunity to spend some time with the team who built this company. He has Trejo Tacos. We got to ask him some questions. What was interesting is one of the questions was from your plan, what you had to do when you open up this restaurant, how much different is it are you than when you started? I remember the CEO saying, “100% of what we wrote down, we’re not doing.”
Do you mean to tell me that by writing down what you have to do, having a plan, you have to change that plan and adapt to what is right in front of you at the time the opportunity that arises? Yes. By writing down what you have to do, it’s not going to be that way anyway. There are certain steps you have to take, but be able to make some changes along the way. The whole thing is when you can make some changes. You’re not focused on what you thought you had to do in the first place. It’s an illusion anyway. This is how you get rid of procrastination. The one thing that drives you is the reason why you want something.
If you focus on what you have to do, “I got to go on a diet. I’ve got to work hard. I’ve got all this,” you still have a desire to do it. What interrupts the pattern is your subconscious program. You stop and think, “I’ve got the desire. What do I going to do?” If you focus on the reasons why you want something, you’ll have a tendency to destroy procrastination. Let say you want to lose weight or you want to increase your business. If you were to get a check for $100,000 to lose ten pounds in three months and you couldn’t diet, what would you think you’re doing? Would you figure out a way to do it? If you knew you could make 10% more profit in three months and you got a check for $100,000 with 10% more profit. You made $25,000 in three months. You got to make $2,500 more. You got a $100,000 bonus. Would you do it? If you answered yes immediately, that’s the key to this thing. The reason you answered yes so fast is because your subconscious mind didn’t focus on what it had to do. It focused on the result that you wanted it.
It’ll figure out a way. When there’s enough reasons why you want something, your brain will go, “I’m going to get it. No matter what.” Have you ever had a desire that you wanted something and you didn’t know how you’re going to get it? Nothing was going to get in your way. You focused 100% on this is what you wanted instead of how to get it. Did you not figure out a way to get it? Did you not acquire that into your life? Didn’t you know how to attract it into your life? Do you know why? It’s because when you are so focused on the result, the opportunities are always in front of you. This time, the doors are opened up and when they open up, you start seeing what’s available to you. What’s right in front of you is always been there. It’s just that you haven’t seen it because you don’t know what you’re looking for because you’re focusing on what you have to do instead of what you want.
What do you do when you focus on what you want and the results of why you want it? You get it. Some people go, “Yes, but I want to lose weight because I wanted to feel good and for my health. I knew it was unhealthy for me and I want to have more energy.” Those are global reasons. They’re not deep-seated reasons why. Ask yourself this. If you didn’t lose ten pounds in 90 days or you didn’t increase your profit by 10% in 90 days, not only do you not get the $100,000 that you have to live and be homeless for ten days with you and your family. You have to go tell your children, your spouse, or if you have grandchildren or nieces and nephews that you didn’t love them enough to get the result you wanted in ten days. What happens is your subconscious mind knows by not attaining that goal, it’s very painful.
What you’re doing is you’re setting up your subconscious mind to getting a new meaning on what being successful means to you. If you can create massive pleasure, why did you say yes to $100,000 by increasing your income by 10%, your profit or by losing ten pounds in 90 days? Because your subconscious mind didn’t analyze it. It focused on a result which is pleasure. Does that mean money makes us happy? I can assure you, everyone goes, “No, it doesn’t make you happy.” Yes, it does. People say, “There are people that have money that is miserable.” Money doesn’t change you. It just makes you more of who you already are. We react before we think. Your subconscious mind said, “$100,000, no stress. People accept me. I could buy what I want. I’ll be able to go places. I can take my family. I will feel better as a human being. Of course, I want to get that.” It was the way it made you feel.

The other thing is sometimes, we’ll do more for somebody else than ourselves. The reason why I said by not moving forward, by you not taking the right action, there has to be real pain involved. Real pain means being homeless for ten days with your family. You’ll do more for somebody else and you will yourself at times. You’ve got to understand how your subconscious mind works. It’s simply a program on your subconscious mind. You’re setting up your subconscious mind. You got a conscious decision. We’re very intelligent consciously, but it’s our subconscious that has these patterns. How do I get a new program on my subconscious mind, to set up my conscious mind to automatically respond, to automatically take the actual words, fun, enjoyable, and pleasurable so I can focus on the result I want and start living the life and lifestyle that I know I deserve?
I got to set a new program on a subconscious. The subconscious is very tender and delicate. Let’s just trick, utilize and influence our subconscious mind that says, “I have this pattern and it’s given me permission to procrastinate. Now, I’m going to give it permission to succeed and not give it permission and procrastinate.” At that point, I’ll start changing my actions. When I change my actions, I change the results and I feel different. There’s your answer. I want you to figure this out and write down what have you wanted in the past? What is something you desire that you set aside because it’s not the right time, you don’t have the money, you’re don’t have the relationship? Whatever excuse that you’ve used, I want you to pretend like those excuses don’t exist for you anymore. When you can say there are no more excuses, there are only results, you will move forward because you will never get back. If you had taken the action a few years ago, you’d be farther ahead.
Ask yourself this. In a few years, if you keep doing the same thing, are you going to have regret or you’re going to have different actions you’re going to take? It’s a brand new day for you. Understand how those patterns work so you create a new pattern. What if I wanted to lose weight and I don’t want to go on a diet? You said I shouldn’t go on a diet. What does that mean? Do diets work? Yes, they work. Why do you put the weight back on? What if you decided that I’m going to change my pattern in my subconscious mind? Instead of saying I need to lose weight, I’m going to change the way I think and say things. How do I get down to my ideal weight, enjoy the process and influence others? By changing the wording, does it make it feel better? Absolutely. Your subconscious says, “Wait a second. Do you mean to tell me I’m not overweight?” No, you’re not overweight. You borrowed weight that doesn’t belong to you. If I borrowed weight that doesn’t belong to me, I better give it back.
What are you doing? You’re setting your mind up. I don’t have to go on a diet? What am I going to do? What if I eat 10% less per meal? You mean to tell me if I have ten pieces of cut-up pieces of chicken or steak or whatever it is that I’m choosing to eat, I can eat 90% of that and I push 10% away? That’ll change things. If you ate 10% more, would you gain weight? Think about that. Here’s what’s going to happen. Your mind is going to, “10% it’s not that big deal. “If it’s not a big deal, add 10% more. What do you think would happened? Your subconscious and your body just went, “No, I don’t want to do that.” because you know the results.
I don’t believe you should ever deprive yourself. When you deprive yourself, you set up a pattern that says about pain and you’ll never get a permanent result. Could you eat 10% less per meal? I think you could. What if you say, “I’ve got to eat everything on my plate because I had that program?” Remember when we were younger, they said eat everything on your plate because there are starving children. Could you put 10% less on your plate? The answer is absolutely. These are choices that you can consciously make to set a pattern in your subconscious mind. Can you eat 10% healthier, more live foods, things that give you energy? I bet you could do that very simply, very easily. You could even move 10% more in your life. Do you know the average person in some countries takes 2,000 to 3,000 steps a day? Everything is convenience. You can have fast food delivered to you. It’s why it’s called faster food. In some countries, they take 10,000 steps. Here’s what I want you to do. Get healthier because a healthier mind is a healthier body. When you have a healthier body, your mind as well as going to support that. I want you to get a pedometer. Measures your steps. Don’t change anything about your patterns the first week so you have to know where you’re at.
Increase your steps by 10% every ten days or every week or every two weeks. Do something different. Before you know it, you get to 10,000 steps because you’ll eat less, you have the energy and you want to move more. That’ll create energy in your body. Our bodies are not meant to sit. It’s conditioned to walk and move. Could you cut back on junk foods, sugars, snacks, fried foods and all that by 10%? I bet you can. Instead of ordering the supersize, you can cut it down a little bit. By applying those four things, you’re going to take possibly one to pounds per week, maybe per month off, depending on where you are in your weight and how you want to develop your body.
I don’t believe anybody’s overweight. I just believe you have that excess weight that doesn’t belong to you. You’re the perfect person. You’re the sculpture. The sculpture is already there. We’re chipping away the things that we don’t want. The more we chip away, the better the sculpture. Do you like to eat chocolate at night? Do you hide it in your drawers and places where you can get access to it fast? I’m not going to take that one away, but I will say this. Instead of eating that night, can you eat some chocolate in the morning so you don’t deprive yourself? Can you cut back on 10% because you don’t want to deprive yourself? These are formulas that get you the results to your subconscious mind that creates a new pattern.
It’s the patterns that get you the desires that you want and your goals. You now know how to stop procrastinating. You now know how your mind works. Why do you want something? What are you willing to know? What are you capable of doing? Start off with small steps and consistent steps. Make them consistent so it becomes a ritual for you because when it becomes a ritual, that point it becomes a new pattern. You’re not thinking about it, you’re responding. Before you know it, you’re on your next journey. Life is all about journeys. You’ll never stop growing. Stop beating yourself up and start enjoying these journeys and start seeing what’s available. If you’re constantly going down the same road and you don’t like what you see, why would you watch the same movie over and over again that you don’t like? You’re the producer, you’re the director and you’re the writer. Let’s write some new programs on our subconscious mind that get the results we want.
